TAD Architects is a architectural firm based in Asheville, North Carolina, founded by owner and architect Tad Dotson. With over 23 years of experience, Tad has a deep understanding of the importance of collaboration between the architect, client, and builder. Our team's goal is to create thoughtful, well-crafted design solutions for residential and commercial projects.

Experience

Tad's passion for architecture began at an early age, and he went on to study architecture at Savannah College of Art & Design, graduating with a Master of Architecture degree in 1995. He then interned at DWB Architects, Inc. before moving to Culpepper, McAuliffe and Meaders in 1997, where he worked as a project architect. He later became a registered architect in North Carolina, Georgia, and South Carolina, and certified by the NCARB, LEED AP - BD+C, and the American Institute of Architects.

As the owner and principal architect of TAD Architects, Tad brings his extensive experience to every project, ensuring that his clients receive personalized attention and exceptional design solutions. With his expertise in management, hospitality, education, and commercial architecture, he has successfully led projects across various industries.

Design Philosophy

Our design philosophy is centered around the principles of local precedence, function, sustainability, and Vernacular architecture. We believe that design is an integral part of life, necessary for everyone in a civilized society. We strive to reflect the environment, taking cues from the surrounding area such as grade, sun position, and views. We also emphasize the use of materials that have strong connections to local use and traditions.
