Who We Are
At Legerton Architecture, we are a responsive design-oriented architectural firm located in Asheville, North Carolina. Since our founding in 1994 by John Legerton, we have successfully completed over 600 projects, working with a diverse range of clients, including homeowners, non-profit organizations, community groups, schools, colleges, universities, healthcare providers, business owners, churches, housing authorities, towns, and cities. Our team of eight dedicated professionals, including six registered architects and LEED accredited professionals, is committed to providing thoughtful, detailed designs, and carefully documented construction plans and specifications.
What We Do
Our mission is to create contextually sensitive, sustainable designs that improve our local and regional quality of life. We believe that careful listening is essential in our design process, which involves understanding our clients' needs, wants, and vision to establish project parameters, obtain site and zoning information, and develop a preliminary project scope. Our process is based on the AIA's "Steps Involved in Design and Construction" and has been refined over our 25 years of practice. We utilize Building Information Modeling and other software to create 3D models of all our projects, which greatly improves understanding and clarity for our clients and our team.
Our Process
Our process is flexible and can be adapted to fit the specific needs and requirements of each project. The typical phases of a new construction or renovation project include:
- Predesign Phase: Understanding our clients' needs, wants, and vision, obtaining site and zoning information, and developing a preliminary project scope.
- Schematic Design Phase: Preparing initial site and building conceptual designs, discussing and reviewing options with clients, and preparing additional design options.
- Design Development Phase: Preparing more detailed site plans, floor plans, and 2D and 3D images/views, discussing and reviewing designs with clients, and updating the project budget and schedule.
- Construction Document Phase: Preparing detailed drawings and specifications for the approved design, obtaining contractor bids, and submitting plans to local building safety review officials.
- Hiring the Contractor: Assisting clients in selecting a contractor, coordinating the bidding process, and providing construction contract forms.
- Construction Phase Services: Serving as clients' advocates during construction, reviewing site work for quality and conformance with contract documents, and administering project close-out processes.
