Our Story

At Paulsen Construction, we take pride in our rich history, which spans over four generations. Founded in 1925 by Paul Paulsen, a fisherman from Norway, our company was built on the principles of shared values, collaboration, and being the preferred builder and trusted partner in every market we serve. Over the years, we have successfully completed numerous projects, including high-rise apartment complexes, high-end residential projects, and schools, many of which still stand today.

Our History

Our journey began when Paul Paulsen founded Paulsen Construction in 1925. Paul had a vision to create a company that would focus on shared values, collaboration, and being the preferred builder and trusted partner in every market we serve. Under his leadership, we completed many buildings in Salt Lake City, many of which still stand today.

As the company grew, Byron Paulsen, Paul's son, took the reins in the 1940s. Byron graduated from the University of Utah with a degree in Civil Engineering and started Paulsen Engineering and Manufacturing to pursue his dream of producing inventions. He merged Paulsen Engineering and Manufacturing with Paulsen Construction in 1974 to create Paulsen Engineering and Construction.

Craig Paulsen, the third-generation leader, began working on Paulsen Construction projects at the age of 6. Craig developed expertise in wastewater treatment plants and built many plants in the Salt Lake Valley and its outskirts. His main area of interest was historical restoration, and he single-handedly rebuilt Spring City, a small town in Central Utah. In 2017, Craig received the Lifetime Achievement Award for historical restoration in the state of Utah, proving his dedication and excellence in the field.

In the present day, our 4th generation of leadership is led by John Paulsen, Craig's son. John has been on the job site, tool in hand, since he was old enough to remember. He has a unique approach to business, being fair, always joking, and deeply understanding every aspect of construction. John has successfully balanced technology and "old school" techniques, building Paulsen Construction into what it is today. John is a construction and community leader always looking for his next project.
