American Electric is a family-owned business that has been serving the Black Hills region for over 40 years. Our Story

Founded in 1983 by Jim Plummer, American Electric has built a reputation for delivering quality workmanship, exceptional customer service, and expert electrical solutions. Jim, a licensed electrician with over 40 years of experience, began his career in the electrical trade by tuning and repairing pianos, and laterapprenticed for Mark Whiting at Whiting Electric. After years of on-the-job training, Jim earned his Journeyman's Card, Contractor's License, and Master Electrician certification.

As the business grew, so did the family involvement. Jim's son, Zack, began helping with electrical projects at the age of 12 and has been a full-time employee since graduating from high school. Jim's daughter, Angelena, has been the office manager and bookkeeper since 2012.
