They recognized the potential for growth amidst the post-Korean War housing boom, driven by the passing of the Veteran's Adjustment Act of 1952. This act enabled returning soldiers to access low-cost home loans, sparking a surge in suburban homebuilding. In Decatur, Georgia, they opened the doors of Magbee Brothers Lumber and Supply, a small store staffed by just seven employees. Starting with a modest fleet of three flatbed trucks and a pickup truck, they built a reputation for reliability and quality, serving the needs of Atlanta's growing construction industry.

Expanding with Metro Atlanta

As the demand for building materials escalated, Magbee Brothers Lumber made strategic moves to stay ahead of the curve. Recognizing the burgeoning opportunities in the eastern suburbs, the company relocated to Scottdale in 1960, securing a prime location on US Highway 78. This strategic move positioned them perfectly to serve builders throughout the Atlanta metropolitan area, including destinations like downtown Atlanta, Stone Mountain, Snellville, Tucker, and Athens. The company continued to evolve, weathering the challenges of the 1980s and navigating the fluctuating construction market with resilience. By the mid-1980s, business increased significantly, and Magbee Brothers Lumber's leadership sensed a new opportunity. The booming suburbs in Gwinnett, Fulton, and Cobb counties were witnessing a construction boom, while activity in DeKalb county began to decline. So in 1986, Magbee Brothers Lumber made another strategic move, relocating to Duluth in the heart of Gwinnett County.

Leadership and Legacy

In 1989, a new chapter unfolded in Magbee Brothers Lumber's story. Bob Magbee, son of Charles Magbee, assumed leadership. Growing up in the business, Bob's deep understanding of the industry and his passion for serving builders became evident. He had started his own millwork shop in nearby Tucker before joining the family business, supplying custom doors and windows to builders. As president, Bob had the vision to expand their offerings and cater to the evolving needs of their clientele. The name was officially changed to Magbee Contractors Supply, reflecting their commitment to becoming a one-stop shop for all building material needs.

Under Bob's leadership, Magbee Contractors Supply continued its growth trajectory. Recognizing the demand for engineered lumber and trusses, the company opened its dedicated truss plant in Winder in 2014, solidifying its position as a comprehensive supplier.
