Our Team

Our team is comprised of highly skilled and experienced professionals in the field of architectural lighting design. Our founder, Gregg Mackell, has over 28 years of experience as a lighting designer and is a professional member of the International Association of Lighting Designers (IALD). He founded 186 Group in 2001 after a decade of experience in both large-scale commercial work and residential lighting design. Gregg's passion lies in designing high-end residential lighting and has completed over 1,000 projects in his career.

Sara Nicole Sullivan, a key member of our team, holds a degree in Architectural Engineering from the University of Colorado, Boulder. She joined the 186 team in 2014 and has previously worked on large-scale commercial projects, earning her a Best Student Design at the 2012 Brilliance Awards and an IES Merit award for the lighting design at T-Mobile Arena in 2017. Sara is dedicated to creating intuitive and enchanting lighting concepts through efficient design, calculated decision-making, and effective collaboration.

Brad Nieukirk, the newest member of our team, brings three years of lighting design experience to the table. He has worked on high-end residential and hospitality projects using REVIT and CAD. Brad received his Architectural Engineering Degree with a focus in Illumination from the University of Colorado Boulder and aims to use lighting as a tool to enhance the occupant's experience within a space by complementing the many aspects of architecture and interior design.
