Tips for Choosing a Granite Company

When choosing a granite company, it's essential to do your research and ask the right questions. Here are a few insider tips to consider:

  • Ask about their fabrication process. Good craftsmen fabricate better by hand, while machine fabricating is quicker but doesn't polish the edges as well.
  • Find out if they use machines or manual polishers. Machine fabricating is quicker, but doesn't polish the edges as well as hand-polishers. To compensate, some companies wax the edges to make them look better, but wax wears off over time.
  • Ask about seams. Some granite companies fabricate each piece individually, while others put pieces together, then fabricate. The edging looks better when pieces are fabricated preassembled.
  • Find out if they install seams with a suction-automated seam machine. It holds the granite in place and levels the seam much better.
  • Insist on 3-centimeter granite. Three-centimeter granite is 70 percent less likely to break than 2-centimeter products.
  • Ask if they buy their granite direct from the mines in Brazil or Italy. Buying direct ensures high-quality products.
  • Find out if they have their own install team. Local installers will support you much better than out-of-town and third-party installers.

By considering these factors, you'll be better equipped to find the right granite company for your needs.
