Hunter Smith Associates, a reputable architectural firm, was established in 1981 and has since grown to a fourteen-person company. Our primary focus has been on Residential and Commercial projects, both for new construction and renovation. Over the years, we have built a reputation for exceptional design work and construction management. Our approach to projects is centered on creating exceptional space while meeting the client's goals and budget constraints.

Our principal, Hunter W. Smith, is a graduate of Kent State University School of Architectural & Environmental Design and holds a Bachelor's degree in Architecture. He is a member of the American Institute of Architects and a Certificate Holder of the National Council of Architectural Registration Boards (NCARB). Additionally, Mr. Smith holds state registrations in Connecticut and New York.

Credentials

At Hunter Smith Associates, we take pride in our ability to secure variances and meet building code requirements, often saving our clients significant amounts of money in construction costs. For instance, we were able to secure a variance for a pre-existing 0.44AC site in Cheshire, CT, allowing for an increase in coverage from 10% to 16%, ultimately resulting in a more marketable living space. In another project, we were able to meet building code requirements for two buildings undergoing adaptive reuse, implementing alternative features that saved the owner approximately $100,000 in construction costs for each renovation.

In our Residential projects, we strive to create the highest and best use for the property, while developing a building design that reduces common areas to maximize the rentable area, thus optimizing gross income. For our Office Interiors Clients, we aim to achieve a floor plan that creates highly efficient work areas and support spaces, allowing for a rentable area that is 10% to 15% less than anticipated, producing significant annual savings on rental expenses.

In the Banking sector, we work to create a warm and welcoming environment for customers while maintaining necessary visual sightlines for proper security. Our projects are designed to take advantage of passive solar heating and cooling, offering long-term energy savings and contributing to lower initial construction costs.
