Our History

Ocean Sash and Door Inc. was founded by Fernando Nelson, who was responsible for building over 4000 homes in the San Francisco area. His business was called Fernando Nelson and Sons, and the window/door/cabinet facility would follow the company from district to district as the Nelsons moved their home building enterprise around the city.

After Fernando passed away, the Nelson Family changed the name of the business to Ocean Cabinets. George Nelson, who eventually took complete ownership, chose to build cabinets and windows inside a shop on Ocean Ave. At 82, after moving the facility two more times, George retired, selling the shop to H.E. York in 1970.

Gene York re-named the shop Ocean Sash and Door and retired the Cabinet department. He then moved the facility to 3154 17th Street into the old Groom Carpet Building. The facilities manufactured windows and doors for 41 years in that location.

Today, Ocean Sash and Door has expanded to two facilities in the Bay Area, with the main Sales Offices at 2730 Oakdale Ave, just off Bayshore Blvd in San Francisco. The second location is a large manufacturing plant in Concord, California.
