Our Name
Our firm's name, Lapis Design Partners, is inspired by the semi-precious stone lapis lazuli. This beautiful gem, with its deep cobalt blue color and golden flecks, has been highly prized since antiquity. We draw inspiration from the rich history and symbolism of lapis lazuli, which represents the heavens and encourages inner peace. We believe that our name reflects our team's commitment to creating spaces that inspire and calm the senses.

Design and Architecture
John Black from Lapis Design was hired to renovate a home in Honolulu, Hawaii. The authors, a couple, wanted to update their house to accommodate their changing lifestyle, including moving their senior mother-in-law into their home. Other architects suggested adding a second floor, but John took a different approach. He noticed that the property had ample space, but it wasn't being utilized effectively. John worked closely with the couple to understand their needs, including aging-in-place and pet-friendliness. He demonstrated exceptional listening skills, creativity, and practicality, producing well-thought-out designs.
Project Management and Communication
Throughout the process, John managed the construction work, showcasing a sense of urgency, cost consciousness, and organization. His easy-going manner, openness, and sense of humor made the project manageable despite its stressors. The couple appreciated John's professionalism, teamwork, and leadership.
