Our Story

Ruben E. Smith Construction / R&R, Inc., has been a cornerstone of the Kankakee County construction landscape since 1972. Founded by Ruben E. Smith and Ronald H. Kinzinger, the company began its journey specializing in pre-engineered metal building construction. Their shared vision was to build a union commercial construction company known for quality, integrity, and reasonable pricing.

As the company grew, so too did its expertise. The partnership, which endured until 2012, witnessed the expansion of services to encompass site utilities installation and repairs, concrete sidewalks, curbs, foundations, and floors. Recognizing the need for comprehensive development solutions, Ruben E. Smith Construction/R&R, Inc. became actively involved in land development projects within local subdivisions, contributing to the growth and infrastructure of the Kankakee County community.

The legacy of the company seamlessly transitioned to the next generation with Bradford E. Smith, son of Ruben E. Smith, assuming his father's share of the corporation in 2012. Brad, who had honed his skills as a union carpenter prior to becoming a principal in the company, brought his in-depth field experience to the leadership role.

R&R, Inc. today stands as a testament to the founders' enduring values. Operating as a general contractor, the company proudly employs skilled union tradespeople and women, directly performing the majority of their work, except for specialized trades like electrical, mechanical, and specialty items. This approach allows for a single source of responsibility, ensuring seamless project execution and total customer satisfaction.
