Our Story

O&P Glass has a rich history dating back to June 9, 1979, when Alan Oakes and Richard Parkhurst founded the company with a shared vision of providing exceptional glazing solutions to the Central Maine region. Their initial venture started with a modest 24' x 36' shop in Winslow, Maine, laying the groundwork for what would become a flourishing enterprise.

The company embarked on a journey of significant growth in 1981. This period marked the development of their groundbreaking OPE208 Air Control Panel and the introduction of auto sunroofs to the market, solidifying their presence as a pioneering force in the industry. As the business expanded its capabilities, they incorporated in 1981, doubling the footprint of their Winslow complex. Recognizing the immense potential in expanding their reach, they opened a branch in Belfast, Maine, in 1983, becoming one of Maine's first integrated window and door manufacturers. They further diversified their offerings by incorporating stained glass products and instruction into their repertoire, showcasing their commitment to providing a comprehensive range of glazing solutions.

Expanding Expertise and Service

The company continued to evolve, fueled by strategic acquisitions and a dedication to innovation. In 1984, O&P Glass acquired Skowhegan Glass, a company with a strong foundation in the auto glass market, further bolstering their expertise and client base. Recognizing the growing demand for sunspaces, they introduced these elegant living spaces in 1986. A journey to Germany inspired a significant shift towards insulated glass manufacturing and high-quality vinyl replacement windows, demonstrating their forward-thinking approach and commitment to product excellence. The following years witnessed strategic branch expansions in Farmington and Waterville, Maine, allowing O&P Glass to serve an increasingly wider customer base with its comprehensive range of glazing products and services.

In 1988, Stained Glass Express, O&P Glass's stained glass division, came to life at 10 Railroad Square in Waterville, Maine.
