A Brief History of Mario and Son

Our journey began in 1956 when Mario Marcella learned the ceramic tile trade from European craftsmen. In 1974, the Marcella family moved to Spokane, WA, where Mario became a well-known tile installer, establishing Mario's Tile. His three sons, Joey, Mike, and Branden, learned the trade from their father and worked periodically during summer vacations and weekends.

In 1987, Joey joined Mario full-time after attending the University of Nevada on a full music scholarship. The duo decided to abandon tile and learn stone fabrication, forming Mario & Son out of Mario's garage. Despite the challenges, the company continued to grow, and in 1992, they moved into a 900 square space on Trent Avenue.

Over the years, Mario & Son continued to expand and advance, purchasing their first bridge saw and edge polishing machine in 1994 and 1995, respectively. They attended the Stone Expo trade show in Orlando, which led to the purchase of their first CNC machine in 1997, a leap of faith that paid off as the company experienced exponential growth.

Mike Marcella joined the company in 1996, bringing his business sense and helping the company to incorporate. His efforts led to the addition of more space and new equipment, including two additional CNC machines and another saw. Branden Marcella joined the company in 2003, further strengthening the family's commitment to excellence.

In 2007, Mario & Son moved into their state-of-the-art, 44,000 sf facility in Liberty Lake, WA. Mike became a company partner, and the business continued to thrive under the leadership of the Marcella family.
