Our Story

Glades Gas is a family-owned business with a rich history spanning over 90 years. Our story began in 1929 when Daniel B. McCarthy, Driven by the desire to improve the lives of people in the Glades, established Glades Gas Company in Okeechobee, Florida. At that time, he introduced a groundbreaking service: propane-powered refrigeration for homes. This innovative offering provided an unprecedented level of convenience and comfort to Okeechobee housewives, marking the beginning of Glades Gas's legacy of providing dependable and valuable services to the community.

Over the decades, Glades Gas has expanded its operations and offerings, reflecting the evolving needs of its customers. In 1950, the business moved to its current location in Belle Glade, acquiring land on North Parrott Avenue. The continued growth led to the acquisition of Indiantown Gas Company in 1954, bringing even more service areas under the Glades Gas umbrella.

Driven by the spirit of family and dedication to customer satisfaction, Glades Gas opened its Belle Glade office on Ave A in 1955, further expanding its reach. The company's commitment to providing comprehensive solutions also led to the addition of central air conditioning services in the early 1960s, offering customers a choice beyond window units. A willingness to adapt and meet the changing needs of the community saw Glades Gas expand its offerings to include appliances in the 1950s and ice machines in the late 1960s.
