Founded in 1982 by Steve Ballard and his father-in-law, Chris "Red" Hargens, the company has grown and evolved to meet the changing needs of the community.

Our Story

The story of Ballard Asphalt began in the early 1980s when Steve Ballard spent his weekends sealcoating, striping, and sweeping parking lots with his father-in-law. As the company grew, Steve and his wife Kathy took over the operation, adding new services such as crack filling, patching, and paving. In 1993, they built a home office and machine shed on the south side of Sioux Falls. After many years of hard work, Steven and Jeff Ballard purchased the company from their father in 2019 and built a new location southwest of Sioux Falls. They are committed to carrying on the legacy of quality service and attention to detail that Ballard Asphalt has provided the community for nearly 40 years.

Our Services

At Ballard Asphalt, we understand the unique needs of our clients and strive to fit any budget. Our wide array of services includes:

• Paving: We work closely with engineers and surveyors to ensure that your pavement is laid with precision and meets the required specifications for proper drainage and mat thickness.
• Crack Filling: We clean the cracks with an industrial air compressor, route the cracks as needed, and fill them with commercial-grade crack sealant.
• Seal Coating: We recommend applying two coats of black sealer to fill and seal cracks up to a quarter inch wide and seal cracks that are just beginning to form.
• Striping: We can retouch existing layouts or paint lines from a custom blueprint you provide, following city codes and parking lot standards.
• Overlay: We can apply a fresh layer of asphalt to surfaces with widespread "alligator" or "spiderweb" cracking.
• Patching: We repair small areas in your asphalt by removing and replacing the existing asphalt.
• Milling: We grind asphalt down below finished grade to allow room for an overlay that will be flush with existing gutters.
