Community Support
At Merryman Barnes Architects, we believe in giving back to our community. We proudly support several organizations, including Taking Ownership PDX, ACLU, Planned Parenthood, and De La Salle North High School. We also encourage our staff to volunteer regularly at the organization of their choice throughout the year.
Sustainability
We recognize the importance of designing sustainably and reducing carbon emissions. We strive to create environmentally friendly buildings and educate our clients about the systems that make buildings more sustainable. We have joined the AIA Commitment to Sustainability project and strive to minimize waste, use recycled materials, and promote public transportation.
Certifications
We are proud to hold several certifications, including NCARB registration in Oregon, Washington, and Idaho, the Oregon Women Business Enterprise (WBE) designation, and the Disadvantaged Business (DBE) certification. We are also proud members of the American Institute of Architects (AIA) and the Portland Chapter.

Our team features several talented architects, designers, and project managers, including our owner and principal, Amy Palmer. We are committed to providing a comprehensive benefits package, supporting mental health and well-being, and promoting balance and flexibility for our staff.
Our History
Merryman Barnes Architects was founded in 1992 by three trailblazing women as the first 100% female-owned architecture firm in Portland, Oregon. We are still 100% women-owned and committed to carrying the torch forward.

Community Support and Housing
We have worked on numerous community support projects, including shelters and housing developments. Some of our notable projects include the Laurelwood Shelter, St. Juan Diego Church, and Bertha Cain Baugh Place Shelter.
Housing
We have worked on a range of housing projects, including multi-family housing, single-family housing, and mixed-use developments. Some of our notable projects include the King & Parks 419 Burnside development and the EASTLAKE VILLAGE new development.
