Company History

Holmes Security Systems was founded more than 115 years ago by Cumberland County native, Oliver Wendell Holmes. After returning to Fayetteville, Mr. Holmes installed the electric trolley lines along Hay Street, and he saw the potential in the area. He decided to open an electrical contracting business, thus, Holmes Electric, Inc. was born in 1908. Over the years, the company has expanded and evolved, transforming into the security solutions provider we know today.

Mr. Holmes purchased the trolley after installing it and operated and expanded it. He also opened the retail store of Holmes Electric on Hay St. in the early 1900s. This store sold electrical supplies and appliances. Through the early years, it became a small department store selling hardware, sporting goods, and housewares in addition to its original offerings.
