About Us

Founded in 1995, Garden Architecture, LLC is a landscape architecture firm specializing in design and construction consulting services for residential and institutional clients. Our principal designer, Kirsten Coffen, is a licensed landscape architect with degrees from Cornell and Harvard Universities. With her extensive experience, you can be confident that your project will be in creative, qualified, and experienced hands.

New Home Construction

At Garden Architecture, we work with you and other professionals involved in your project to plan the location and orientation of your new home on your lot. We can arrange for the property to be surveyed and have a topographic worksheet prepared. Working closely with you, and collaborating with the architect and/or builder, we can plan how the house relates to the site for optimum residential landscape design. This includes deciding on the finished elevation of the house in relationship to the existing topography, managing drainage patterns, and incorporating driveways and parking areas. All of these features are designed and drawn on a Site Plan that can be used in your builder's package to obtain building permits for your project.

Landscape Renovation

Many homeowners face the dilemma of what to do with an older property. Where is the best place to start with making changes that enable you to use your outdoor space more effectively? Your home may have overgrown shrubs and trees crowding your front walkway, driveway, or house. Perhaps you have inherited an outdated landscape from the previous owners that doesn't meet your current outdoor living needs. Or your family is changing, and now that the children are grown, you want to eliminate some lawn to create a focal water garden for relaxation and enjoyment.
