Where Quality Meets Tradition

Welcome to Maina Hardwoods, where we've been manufacturing unique interior wood products for over 30 years. Our story began in the early 1960s when Richard (Tex) and Pat Maina left Chicago to start a resort in the Hayward area of Wisconsin. After a fire destroyed the main lodge, Tex rebuilt and operated the resort during the summer, working at Telemark Ski Hill in the winters. With the arrival of their third son, they sold the resort and relocated closer to Hayward. Tex began his woodworking journey, buying a local sawmill and planer setup. He started making dimension lumber but soon realized it was a tough road competing with big mills. In the late 1970s, Tex's oldest son Dave joined the business, specializing in manufacturing high-quality hardwood tongue and groove paneling and flooring. After several fires and rebuilding efforts, Tex's youngest son Steve joined the business and eventually became a partner after Tex's retirement. Today, Dave and Steve continue the legacy using a mix of home-made and purchased machines, including the original 100-year-old planer. Our process, refined over many years, starts with locally harvested trees, sawing the lumber ourselves to ensure precise dimensions. We dry the wood using species-specific schedules in our kiln to achieve uniform drying and natural color. Our planing line includes a straight-line rip process, molding, and tongue and groove machining in one pass. For paneling, each board is sanded to prepare it for finish application. We strive to minimize waste and maximize durability by only removing rotten or structurally unsound sections during the end-matching process. Our finished products are then carefully packaged to maintain moisture content and ensure handling from our mill to your project site. At Maina Hardwoods, we're dedicated to providing an affordable, beautiful, and unique product that will last a lifetime.
