Our History

The Fireplace Shop Ltd. has been a fixture in the Toronto landscape since 1962, a testament to our enduring commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and the art of hearth design. Founded by Iris and Ken Cook, along with local pottery shop owner Mr. Clarence Kajar, our story began with a shared passion for creating inviting and elegant spaces. My mother, Iris, gained invaluable experience working for a blacksmith on Yonge Street, where she discovered a love for fireplace furnishings and the idea of starting her own shop. My father, Ken, ran Ken Cook Delivery, serving Toronto artists through his trusty VW van, forging strong connections with decorators and the vibrant art community in Yorkville. Clarence, owner of a pottery shop in the trendy Yorkville neighborhood, brought his own expertise to the table. Through a merging of these unique ventures, The Fireplace Shop Ltd. emerged, becoming the first dedicated fireplace shop in Canada. From England, we brought back a treasure trove of antiques that added a touch of timeless elegance to our offerings. By the early 1970s, we found our home along Eglinton Avenue West, nestled among a burgeoning community of boutique retailers, where we remain today, serving generations of discerning customers.
