Our History
Gardner Zemke was incorporated on January 1st, 1965 by George Gardner and FR "Dick" Zemke, two seasoned managers from the Reynolds Electrical & Engineering Company. With decades of experience in managing large complex projects, Dick Zemke had previously worked on the Atomic Energy Commission's Gaseous Diffusion project at Portsmouth, Ohio. The early years saw the company performing numerous projects at Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories, as well as electrifying the Navajo Indian Reservation in Arizona and New Mexico.
Branching Out
Throughout the 1970s, the company expanded its services to include industrial work in mining, milling, and water treatment facilities. In 1974, the Mechanical Division was established to provide plumbing, piping, and HVAC services to complement the Electrical Division's electrical work. The 1980s saw a significant rise in powerplant upgrades, including the addition of scrubs and bag houses to reduce air pollutants.
Expansion and Growth
The 1990s brought expansion into new territories, with the company performing specialized work for government agencies like the Department of Defense, Army Corps of Engineers, and Department of Energy. This era saw the company peak at over 600 personnel, with licensing in 12 western states.
Today and Beyond
Today, Gardner Zemke continues to deliver quality services to a wide range of clients, from government agencies to private companies. With a legacy spanning over 50 years, we remain committed to understanding the needs of our customers and meeting those needs with the highest degree of quality, efficiency, value, safety, and performance.
