Our History

Drumm's Turf and Sawmill is more than just a business; it's a family tradition built on a foundation of hard work, dedication, and a passion for quality. The story began in 2004 when Barney Drumm Sr., a retired General Electric machinist-mechanic, took a leap of faith and launched his own sawmill. Fueled by his entrepreneurial spirit and a commitment to craftsmanship, Barney poured his heart into every aspect of the business. He built the foundation, installed the equipment, and nurtured the sawmill into a thriving operation.

Over the years, Barney acquired valuable machinery, including a J.A. Vance planer-matcher and a state-of-the-art kiln, allowing him to produce high-quality lumber on a large scale. His expertise and attention to detail quickly gained recognition, making Drumm's Sawmill a trusted source for top-notch lumber products within the area. Also in 2004, Barney's son, Shane, embarked on his own entrepreneurial journey, establishing Drumm's Turf Services. Recognizing the growing demand for professional sod installation, Shane built a strong reputation for delivering exceptional results. His company quickly became the top contractor for the local Saratoga Sod Farm, continuously exceeding customer expectations with over 4 million square feet of sod installed since its inception. Both father and son achieved remarkable success in their respective fields, their businesses standing as testaments to their dedication and expertise.

As time went on, Barney began considering the future of his sawmill. In 2016, health concerns prompted him to explore the possibility of selling his successful venture. He even started selling some of the equipment that had been instrumental in his success, marking a bittersweet chapter in his entrepreneurial journey. However, in 2017, a fortunate turn of events unfolded. Shane, recognizing the value of his father's legacy and the potential for a powerful synergy, made the decision to purchase Drumm's Sawmill. This merger brought together two established businesses, propelling Drumm's Turf and Sawmill to new heights. Today, under Shane's leadership as the second-generation owner, Drumm's Turf and Sawmill stands as a testament to their family's commitment to quality, craftsmanship, and service. The company continues to operate both the thriving sawmill and the highly successful sod installation and landscaping services, offering a comprehensive range of products and services to meet all customer needs.
