Maverick Construction Inc. is a full-service construction company with a rich history rooted in the iconic Grand Hotel of Mackinac Island. Established in 1993, we began as a general contractor dedicated to serving the unique needs of this historic landmark. Over time, our expertise and capabilities expanded to encompass a wide range of construction disciplines, transforming us into a multifaceted provider of building solutions.

Self-Performing Capabilities

Our commitment to quality and efficiency led us to adopt a unique approach. Unlike many general contractors who rely heavily on subcontractors, Maverick Construction excels in self-performing a vast majority of the construction processes. Our in-house teams of skilled professionals handle excavation, concrete work, structural steel erection, rough and finish carpentry, cabinetry fabrication, roofing, siding, insulation, and even custom furniture design and fabrication. This integrated approach allows us to maintain meticulous control over every stage of a project, ensuring unparalleled quality, consistent workmanship, and streamlined project management.

Specialized Millwork Shop

To further enhance our capabilities and meet the demanding aesthetic requirements of projects like the Grand Hotel, we established a dedicated millwork shop in 1995. Sprawling across a 3,000 square-foot facility in St. Ignace, Michigan, this state-of-the-art workshop houses expert craftspeople who meticulously create custom woodwork, doors, moldings, cabinetry, and other intricate details that elevate a building's character and elegance.

Expanding Horizons

As our reputation for excellence grew, so did our portfolio of projects. Beyond the Grand Hotel, we have partnered with prestigious clients such as Holy Childhood of Jesus Church, Lake Superior State University, Northern Michigan University, and various State of Michigan initiatives. Our expertise extends to both commercial and residential construction, encompassing a diverse range of project types and scopes.

Excavation Division

Complementing our core construction services, we established a dedicated Excavation Division in the late 1990s. The acquisition of a gravel pit in 1998 fueled the growth of this division, enabling us to provide comprehensive earthmoving, grading, and material supply services for a wide array of projects. From municipal infrastructure improvements like sewer and water main extensions to large-scale land development, our Excavation Division plays a pivotal role in shaping the landscape.

Comprehensive Facilities and Resources

In 2000, Maverick Construction relocated to a larger, purpose-built facility in St. Ignace. This 9,500 square-foot facility houses our extensive woodshop, paint room, mechanic shop, showroom, offices, and storage building. The integrated nature of our operations empowers us to manage projects efficiently, ensuring seamless coordination across all disciplines and delivering exceptional results.
