Our History

Baker Electric, Inc. has a rich history that spans over 75 years. Founded in 1946 by Gene Baker, the company has evolved over the years to become a leading electrical contractor in Iowa. Our journey began with Gene's first job at Furlong Electric in 1935, where he started answering phones and eventually became an estimator. After World War II, Gene returned to Furlong Electric and, upon Mr. Furlong's illness, they struck a buy-sell agreement to change the name to Furlong and Baker in 1948. The agreement allowed Gene to own the business after a 10-year period. Tragedy struck when Mr. Furlong passed away, but Gene continued to run the business, eventually changing the name to Baker Electric. In 1960, the company was formally incorporated.
