Our founder, Brian M. Ripley, has been in the business since he was a young boy, learning the trade from his father, Gerald A. Ripley Sr., who started Ripley Construction in 1969. Brian later honed his skills during his time in the United States Air Force, where he operated and trained others on heavy equipment. After his service, he returned to work for his father's company and also attended college, earning a degree in Construction Management.

In 2000, Brian decided to establish his own business, Brian M. Ripley Excavating, with the support of his wife, Phyllis, who has been an integral part of the company since its inception. Phyllis, a former LPN, now serves as the Secretary/Equipment operator for the business. Their children, Heather and Matthew, have also been involved in the company, with Heather earning a bachelor's degree in Horticulture and Landscape Design from NDSU and Matthew serving in the United States Marine Corps.
