Our Story

The ReCONNstruction Center was founded in 2003 by John Powers, a Connecticut native with a passion for environmental sustainability. The idea for the center was born from John's belief that building materials should not end up in landfills, but rather be reused and recycled. This mission-driven approach has guided the organization's growth and success over the years.

Our Name

The name "ReCONNstruction Center" was carefully chosen to reflect the organization's goals and location. The "Re" stands for Reuse and Recycle, CONN is an abbreviation for the state of Connecticut, and "reconstruct" means to construct again. This name represents the rebirth of building materials, giving new life to old materials and promoting environmental sustainability.

Donations

The ReCONNstruction Center accepts donations of unwanted, but perfectly usable building materials and fixtures. These donations are inventoried, priced, and displayed in our store to encourage shoppers to use the store as a resource. As a 501(c)(3) organization, donors are entitled to a charitable donation receipt that can be used to claim a tax deduction.
