Baraboo Awning, a name synonymous with quality and craftsmanship in the industry for over 75 years, stands as a testament to dedication and a commitment to excellence. Founded in 1926 as a one-person operation, we have evolved into a leading provider of custom awnings, canopies, and fabric structures, serving clients across Wisconsin and the Midwest. Our journey began humbly, with Art Thayer repairing torn railroad pads within empty railway cars, skillfully utilizing an old Singer sewing machine. This dedication to high-quality workmanship laid the foundation for our enduring legacy.

The 1930s saw us expand our expertise, taking on projects like repairing the grand tents of the Ringling Brothers Circus and manufacturing rubber aprons for the University of Wisconsin Chemistry Department. We even provided boat cushions for the iconic Dells Boat Tours, showcasing our versatility and ability to meet diverse client needs.

A Legacy of Custom Fabrication

In the 1950s, Willard Schenkat became our steward, overseeing a period of flourishing production. He focused on mass-produced items like camper tops, aprons, and even cow blankets, demonstrating our adaptability to changing market demands. However, the heart of Baraboo Awning always remained in custom fabrication. This focus truly flourished when the Anchor family acquired the business in 1976. They instilled a renewed emphasis on custom work, including commercial awnings, industrial sewing, and innovative custom designs.

This dedication to unique solutions led us to purchase Weathermaster in 1982, a national manufacturer of boat covers, further expanding our portfolio and solidifying our position as industry leaders. Today, under the continued leadership of the Moon family, Baraboo Awning remains at the forefront of custom fabric solutions.
