Always custom, always distinctive, truly yours.

Our work is guided by a deep commitment to sustainability and a belief in the power of design to create a more harmonious relationship between buildings and the natural environment. We are pioneers in sustainability in the Pacific Northwest, with a rich history of designing buildings that not only harness solar energy but also integrate sustainable practices with design and lifestyle choices. Our services are socially responsible, cost-effective, and energy-efficient, and we have extensive experience working with off-grid, straw bale, and environmentally preferable materials.

At the heart of our work are two key projects that showcase our approach to green building design. The Laakso house, featured in our banner image, is a remote, off-grid location that utilizes every possible solar application needed for comfort. The Gibson house, pictured at the top right, is a green building that boasts excellent natural light and healthy building materials, including strawbale insulating walls, natural linoleum, wall plasters, paints, and flooring.

Services

We offer a range of services designed to help our clients achieve their sustainability goals. These services include:

*Green Eco-Design*: Our eco-design services encompass site analysis, schematic design, establishing construction budgets, effective written construction documents, coordinating consultants, construction administration, and liaison with government agencies.

*Consulting*: We provide consulting services to assist clients with critical decision-making at the earliest phase of a development project. This includes zoning review, time-line and cost estimates, and recommendations for existing buildings that emphasize energy efficiency, enhanced function, and reduced maintenance and operations expense.

*Education*: We offer presentations covering passive solar design, daylighting, hands-on construction, site analysis, and the fundamentals of sustainable culture.

History

Anthony Stoppiello, our founder, began his work life as a construction laborer and started working in the field of architecture in 1964. He studied with the modern pioneers of passive solar building design in America at Arizona State University and started his own firm in 1979. He has served as the Sustainability Division chair for the American Solar Energy Society, board president of the Solar Energy Association of Oregon (now Solar Oregon), and as a board member for community business associations.

Victoria Stoppiello, our co-founder, received degrees from the University of California, Berkeley, and the University of Colorado. Her management work has focused on higher education and non-profit organizations, and she has served as president of non-profit boards of directors, and as a planning commissioner and city councilor. Her freelance writing work includes newspaper coverage of local government, editorial commentaries, and articles in national publications including Solar Today, Fine Homebuilding, and BackHome magazines.

Together, Anthony and Victoria frequently collaborate on classes and articles about passive solar green building design. Their presentations are inspiring for professionals and homeowners alike, thanks to their love of people, commitment to sustainable culture, Anthony's technical expertise, and Victoria's ability to translate complex concepts into everyday language.

Today, Anthony provides eco-design consultation, working with a full range of consultants, including structural, electrical, and mechanical engineers, cost estimators, specification writers, landscape architects, and wastewater specialists. He has over 35 years of architecture and eco-design experience, with a focus on solar, healthy, and environmentally preferable materials. He emphasizes maximum natural light and energy efficiency and has taught Sustainable Building at Clatsop Community College.
