Our History

American Concrete Industries has a rich history deeply rooted in family, craftsmanship, and a commitment to quality. Founded in 1957 as Maine Shawnee Step Company, Inc., it started as a small, family-owned concrete business in Auburn, Maine. Driven by a passion for providing durable and reliable concrete products, the company quickly established itself as a trusted name in the region. Over a decade, in 1967, under the leadership of the Snowe brothers - Carlton, Richard, and John - the company expanded its operations and rebranded as American Concrete Industries. This marked a pivotal moment in the company's evolution, venturing into new territories like residential septic systems, commercial wastewater and stormwater management, and a broader range of precast concrete items.

American Concrete Industries remained a steadfast presence in the precast concrete industry, serving the growing needs of Maine and northern New England. A testament to its enduring legacy, in 2014, the company acquired assets from its neighboring entity, Oldcastle (Auburn), formerly known as Superior Concrete. This strategic move not only strengthened the company's position in the market but also allowed it to keep the legacy of Superior Concrete alive by reopening under its familiar name.
