Our History

It all began when Jack T. Irwin founded Irwin Stone in Bethesda in 1938, initially selling roofing slate. As the years passed, the business evolved to include a diverse range of stone products. Our customers, mostly contractors, soon came to rely on us for their stone needs. Today, two of Jack's grandsons, Brian Kelly and Steve Kelly, own and operate the company. Brian's expertise in quarries across the country enables us to track down unique stones for our customers. Steve's experience in large projects and custom builders ensures exceptional customer service and operational efficiency at both our locations.
