Our Story

NU-Tech Heating & Cooling is a Utah-based company founded by Al Winters in 2002. With decades of experience in drilling and refrigeration work, Al had previously installed over 100 geothermal systems in Utah and Arizona. His sons, Luke and Adam, joined him in the business, bringing their own passion for the mechanical and a strong work ethic. Today, Nu-tech is a leading provider of geothermal heating and cooling solutions in Utah, Arizona, and Idaho.

How Direct Exchange Geothermal Works

Direct Exchange (DX) geothermal systems work by directly transferring heat from the ground to your home. The earth absorbs solar energy from the sun, maintaining a nearly constant temperature between 50°F to 70°F. Our DX systems utilize these constant temperatures to exchange heat between your home and the earth as needed for heating and cooling. By reducing the number of heat transfers, our systems increase your home's heat output and efficiency.

What to Expect

In the winter, our systems transfer heat from the earth to the ground loop, which is filled with refrigerant. The heated refrigerant is then returned to the home through an enclosed ground loop. The inside unit extracts the heat from the refrigerant and moves the warm air through your ductwork.

In the summer, the cycle reverses, and the system removes heat from your home, cooling it down. The heat removed from your home is then released back into the cooler earth via the buried ground loop system.
