Our Story

In the spring of 1971, Deb and Darrell Satern embarked on a journey that would shape the landscape of the exterior remodeling industry. With a vision built on hard work and determination, they started by offering seamless gutters and downspouts to residential customers. Their days were consumed by installation, their evenings by sales, diligently meeting the growing demand. This early dedication to quality and customer service laid the foundation for the lasting success of Satern Exteriors.

As the 1970s continued, their reputation for excellence spread, prompting an increase in employees and a steady expansion of services. Darrell, attuned to market trends, recognized the rising popularity of permanent siding options in the late 1970s. Driven by his unwavering commitment to provide the best products and services, he decided to expand once again, venturing into the realm of seamless steel siding in 1980. This marked another milestone in the company's growth, solidifying their position as a leader in the industry.

Guided by Darrell's vision of offering high-quality products with unparalleled installation expertise, Satern Exteriors continued to evolve. They diversified their offerings, seamlessly integrating gutters, siding, soffit and fascia covers, windows, doors, custom trim covers, and more into their expansive product line. By the late 1980s, this continued growth necessitated the addition of more installers and sales staff, reflecting the expanding customer base drawn to Satern Exteriors' commitment to excellence.

The year 1998 marked a significant transition as the family-owned and operated business ushered in its second generation. Deb and Darrell's son, Tate, having recently graduated from Iowa State University, joined the company in a management role, working closely with his father. Recognizing the growing demand for investment-grade roofing products, they made the strategic decision to expand the company's services, offering permanent metal roofing solutions to both residential and commercial clients.

In 2013, Deb and Darrell gracefully retired from the business, leaving the reins in the capable hands of Tate and Jennifer Satern. Today, Satern Exteriors stands as a testament to the dedication and vision of its founders, upholding the same core principles that have propelled its success for over five decades.
