At Black Mountain Architecture, we pride ourselves on our creative and attentive team of designers, led by Principal Architect and Saranac Lake local, Jesse Schwartzberg. With years of experience working in the Adirondack region, we have developed a deep understanding of local and state code and zoning requirements, trustful relationships with town officials, consultants, engineers, and skilled general contractors.

Meet Our Team

Our team is comprised of professionals with diverse backgrounds and expertise. Jesse Schwartzberg, our Principal Architect, has a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and is a LEED Accredited Professional. Jesse is passionate about the future of the Adirondacks and is particularly interested in net zero energy, local materials, and sustainable design.

Our Office Manager and Communications Director, Kimberly Schwartzberg, brings her expertise from several years of experience at the education nonprofit College for Every Student and Essex Farm, a diverse Community-Supported Agriculture (CSA). Kim is the mother of three and is passionate about encouraging others in motherhood, highlighting the importance of community and support.

Kristen Starheim, our Project Lead, has a Master of Architecture degree from Northeastern University and a passion for ecology. She has worked on several academic buildings and museums and has completed the Appalachian Trail and Transamerica Bike Trail.

Katie Culp, our Project Lead, holds a Master of Architecture degree from the University of Oregon and a Bachelor of Fine Arts in Sculpture from Pacific Northwest College of Art. She works towards creating beautiful, meaningful spaces for people and is a native of Oregon.

Oliver Holmes, our Architectural Designer, was born in Saranac Lake and has a Bachelor of Science degree from Keene State College. He has a deep appreciation for the natural world and is particularly interested in environmental consciousness as it relates to architecture.

Michael Laramee, our Project Lead, has a background in architectural technology from SUNY Delhi and over 40 years of architectural experience. He is a veteran of the architectural profession and has worked on a wide range of projects.
