Our History

Central Heating and Air Conditioning have proudly served Billings and the surrounding areas since 1945. Ralph Winchell founded the company in 1945, then known as Central Sheet Metal, to provide the local community with high-quality HVAC equipment installed by skilled craftsmen. Eventually, the company was handed to Ralph's sons, John and Jerry Winchell, to continue the tradition of excellent service. In 1997, Lenny Earnst began working for the Winchells. When it came time for John to retire, he didn't want to see the shop close after 66 years and knew Lenny would continue to provide the same level of service the community had come to expect. In 2011, Lenny and his wife, Gina, purchased Central Sheet Metal from John. Together, they decided to rename the company Central Heating & Air Conditioning to better reflect their scope of work.
