She believes in the importance of understanding the natural and cultural context of a place before creating a design. This approach results in sustainable landscapes that are not only beautiful but also functional and environmentally conscious.

Residential Landscape Design

Jessica has worked on numerous residential projects, each with its unique challenges and opportunities. Her approach is to understand the clients' needs and preferences and translate them into a design that enhances the functionality and aesthetic appeal of the property.

For instance, in the case of the Wilcox residence, the client was looking for a space with increased privacy and separation from the street on their corner lot in an urban environment. Jessica's design included leveling a portion of the lot and using a wall to provide some separation between areas, providing a terrace for seating and a flat area for children to play. Strategic plantings and garden features provided increased privacy, creating a "room" feel in the yard, despite the corner lot in a city.

In another project, the Naess residence, the client was interested in traditional American plants with a wilder, garden feel. Jessica's design included a parking court for the front of the house, with a stone walkway approach that reveals the house and a secluded seating area as you approach. The gardens and new walkway create a more dramatic, yet friendly approach to the house, and the seating area is a private nook in the front of the house.

Commercial Landscape Design

Jessica's commercial projects also showcase her ability to understand the unique requirements of each site. For instance, the Clifton Bed and Breakfast needed a space that looked great all the time, given its popularity as a wedding and event destination. Jessica continues to work closely with the client, directing their maintenance staff and gardeners. Over time, she has added a vegetable garden, a level tent pad, and addressed storm damage. Her ongoing commitment to the property ensures consistency and grows the investment in the beautiful space - one of the reasons this B&B is such a popular wedding destination.

Another commercial project, the Willow Grove Bed and Breakfast, had unique challenges for landscaping and design. The site needed to retain a residential, comfortable appeal, yet stand up to the rigors of increased foot traffic and heavy use. Plus, it needed to look great, all year. Jessica's design approach was centered around creating a sustainable landscape that not only met these requirements but also enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the property.

In conclusion, Jessica's passion for sustainable and functional design, combined with her extensive experience in both residential and commercial landscape architecture, makes her the perfect choice for any landscape design project. Her commitment to understanding the unique spirit of each site and translating it into a design that perfectly suits her clients' needs sets her apart from the rest.
