Crafting spaces that reflect you.

At Torchio Architects, we believe in the power of personal customer service. Our approach is centered on creating buildings that reflect our clients' needs, site, and budget. We strive to design spaces that are not only aesthetically pleasing but also promote healthy and productive environments for our clients to work, live, and worship.

Our History and Philosophy

Torchio Architects was first established in 1983 by Gregory D. Torchio, AIA, LEED AP. In 1990, Greg moved the firm to Centreville, MD, where it has become a vital part of the mid-shore business community. Greg is the president of the firm and oversees all work. He has been practicing architecture since 1983 and has been building most of his life. His commitment to green building is evident in the firm's LEED Silver-certified office building, which he built in 2007.

Our philosophy is simple: we believe that good design stands the test of time. We respect historical contexts while designing modern buildings that meet our clients' specific needs. We are committed to improving and enriching the built and natural environment. We strive to instill Christian values of honesty, fairness, and trust in our business.

Meet the Principals

In addition to Greg, Jo Anne Baker Gebelein, AIA is also a principal in Torchio Architects. She has extensive experience with assembly buildings, especially churches, and is skilled at working with building committees. Our team includes architects, intern architects, and an office manager who support Greg and Jo Anne.

Services Offered

We offer a wide range of services to our clients, including:

  • Visioning: This is a critical part of the design process, where we work closely with our clients to understand their vision and goals for the project.
  • Master Planning: A master plan looks beyond the present and establishes a roadmap for future development. It often includes the services listed under Visioning.
  • Existing Building Survey: A documentation of existing building conditions as a starting point for subsequent work.
  • Facility Analysis: An evaluation of the architectural, structural, mechanical, and electrical components of an existing facility in regards to functionality, condition, architectural merit, and code compliance.
  • Programming: We use a systematic approach to determine the spatial needs of the anticipated users of a facility through a series of questionnaires and interviews.
  • Site Analysis and Selection: This evaluation identifies all aspects that may influence the development potential of an existing site or multiple prospective sites.
  • Site Planning: Based on the information gathered in the Site Analysis and Building Program, this is a process of examining possible solutions for the development of the site.

Our services cater to a variety of building types, including commercial, religious, financial, residential, industrial, and recreational uses. We take pride in our ability to provide personalized service to each client, ensuring that their unique needs are met throughout the design process.
