Our History

We began our journey in 1971, when D.L. Blackwood founded our company after gaining over a decade of experience in drafting and pipeline inspection at Alabama Gas Corporation. With a start-up crew of three-man and a limited fleet of equipment, including a backhoe and dump truck, Blackwood Construction was born. By 1979, we had obtained our unlimited General Contractor's license, and by 1982, we had become a full-fledged corporation, meeting the growing demands of our clients. Today, with over 100 years of combined experience among our top personnel, we have solidified our position as a leading player in the world of construction.

Safety First

At Blackwood Construction, safety is our top priority. We conduct mandatory weekly training and meetings on job and equipment best safety practices. All employees are required to complete a strict training curriculum before being certified to operate machinery and equipment. On the job site, our personnel are outfitted in hard hats, safety vests, and steel toe boots. Our strict protocols and practices have led to having zero OSHA citations in the history of our company.
