Davenport Excavation was founded in July 1984 by Doug Davenport, who left the family farm to start his own earth-moving business. Doug had gained a reputation through various side jobs and decided it was time to make a career change. His mentor was his father, George Davenport, who was a dozer operator for most of his working life. George started operating at a young age during World War II and later worked for a developer in Connecticut, building subdivisions. Before retirement, George worked for the Rutland-Bennington county soil conservation program, building ponds, ditches, and watershed management for local farmers. Doug successfully ran Davenport Excavation for 32 years, serving the Lakes Region in Southern Vermont and Upstate New York. The business is known best for the installation, replacement, and repair of septic systems but has provided a wide range of residential and commercial site work services. In 2016, Doug sold the business to his oldest son, Ryan, who currently runs the day-to-day operations with his father still involved. Ryan's goal is to maintain a close relationship with each customer, working efficiently and timely while prioritizing quality work. Ryan graduated from the University of Vermont in 2012 with a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering and has certifications as a Vermont State Licensed Designer for water and wastewater systems, a Vermont Shoreline Act Certified Contractor, and an Engineer Intern License.
