Our journey began with Paul Lucas, a visionary entrepreneur who, after earning his Aerospace Engineering degree in 1969, transitioned from traditional engineering roles to embrace the emerging field of alternative and sustainable energy. Working for one of the first solar companies in the United States, Solar Energy Heating in San Rafael, California, Paul garnered invaluable experience in the industry. Driven by his passion, Paul founded his own company in 1980, recognizing the immense potential of solar power.

Drawn to Hawaii's sunny climate and the need for clean energy solutions, Paul relocated his operation and established Solar Kauai in 1982. His unwavering dedication to the power of solar energy quickly gained recognition, leading him to play a pivotal role in shaping Hawaii's solar regulations. At the request of local officials from the Hawaii utilities and county building departments, Paul contributed to designing the initial code specifications for the proper installation of both solar water heating and power systems.
