Our History

Cox Masonry has been a cornerstone of the Southern Arizona masonry community for over four decades. Founded in 1983 by brothers James and Thomas Cox, the company draws its strength and expertise from a rich family legacy spanning over a century in the masonry trade. Their great-grandfather, Frank J. Cox, arrived in the Arizona Territory in the late 1890s, "following the brickpile" and leaving his mark on the state's architectural landscape. That pioneering spirit was passed down through generations, with Frank's sons, William and Francis, becoming highly skilled bricklayers themselves. Francis' sons, Bill, Jim, and Tom, continued the family tradition, gaining invaluable experience working for the esteemed local contractor Louis V. DeVry and Son.

In 1966, the three Cox brothers established Cox Brothers Incorporated, taking their craft to new heights. During their time, they were responsible for numerous landmark projects across Tucson and Southern Arizona, including buildings for prominent institutions like the University of Arizona, Pima County Government, the US Government, Tucson Unified School District, and a variety of businesses ranging from banks and hotels to offices, shopping centers, and hospitals. Their commitment to quality and meticulous workmanship earned them the trust and respect of leading general contractors in the region.

After nearly two decades of success, the Cox Brothers decided to retire, leaving behind a legacy of excellence. However, the spirit of Cox Masonry remained strong. Jim and Tom, eager to continue their family's contribution to the building industry, established Cox Masonry, Inc. in 1983, carrying on the tradition of producing consistently high-quality work and serving the Southern Arizona community with integrity and dedication.
