What is Repointing?

Repointing is the process of renewing mortar joints in masonry construction. Over time, weathering and decay cause voids in the joints between masonry units (usually bricks), allowing water to enter. This can lead to significant damage through freeze/thaw cycles and the dissolution of salts and salt deposits. Repointing is a critical maintenance task that prevents water from entering the brick wall cavity. If water is allowed to seep into the brick wall, it can cause cracking or spalling of the brick face.
