Vermont Tibetan Rugs, also known as VTR, began its journey in the Summer of 2003 on a 120-acre Christmas tree farm in Northern Vermont. The mission was to bring high-quality Tibetan carpets and rugs to this mountainous area. The founder, Fay, travels to the Himalayas of Tibet to select hand-knotted Tibetan carpets that appeal to the mountain homes in Vermont. Over the years, the collection has expanded to include rugs from eight different countries and regions, including Turkish kilims, Nepalese and Tibetan traditional and contemporary designs, Iranian tribal nomadic ancient patterns, Afghanistan prayer rugs, Russian Caucasus's Mountains, and both India and Pakistan tribal and contemporary rugs.

Our Rugs

All of the rugs offered by VTR are made from natural wool with some silk fibers, handmade, and hand-knotted on a factory or family-made portable nomadic loom. None of the rugs are machine made or synthetic. The preference for hand-spun, hand-dyed all wool rugs stems from their durability, stain-resistance, biodegradability, and the fact that they do not pollute the indoor air with off gases from glues and other synthetic materials. Customers can choose from the extensive collection of patterns, designs, and sizes or can custom design their rugs.

Supporting Indigenous Weaving

With each VTR rug purchase, you are helping to keep indigenous rug weaving alive, supporting the Nepal Cleft and Burn Center in Katmandu Valley, Nepal, and continuing the Tibetan arts and crafts industry. Fay, the owner, has over 45 years of experience in wool weaving and can assist in finding the perfect hand-knotted rug, provide appraisals, and recommend how best to clean your carpets. If you need assistance finding the perfect Tibetan rug, Fay is here to help, ready to answer any questions you may have.
