For over 80 years, we have been serving Southwest Virginia and Northeast Tennessee with a wide range of products and services designed to meet the needs of professional builders, remodelers, architects, and do-it-yourself homeowners.

Our History

Berry Home Centers has its roots in a family business founded in 1939 by Chilhowie entrepreneur Fount W. Berry. The company started as a small business, buying and selling produce, scrap metal, herbs, and other goods from local farmers and traders. Over the years, the Berry family expanded their business ventures, including opening a dry goods and grocery store in the 1950s. In 1968, following the death of F.W. Berry, his daughter and two sons continued to operate Berry Enterprises, Inc., developing residential subdivisions in Chilhowie, Seven Mile Ford, and Marion, Virginia. In the 1970s, the Berry family opened Berry Builders and Supply, with the Chilhowie store serving as the area's first full-scale building materials supplier and truss manufacturer. In 1986, the company was renamed Berry Home Centers, and Tom Bishop, a grandson of F.W. Berry, purchased the majority interest in the company. Today, Berry Home Centers operates two stores, with locations in Abingdon and Chilhowie, Virginia.
